"One of the most impactful things about the work we do at Adler University is that it helps all of us see clearly – see ourselves clearly, see our clients clearly, and see the world a little more clearly, too."
— Katie Roach, Master of Arts in Couple and Family Therapy

"It’s about how we can try to make the greatest impact, whether working with individuals or communities and how can we affect things on a larger scale to create social change, which is a core aspect of Adlerian psychology that I continue to embrace."
— John Gingrich, Master of Counseling Psychology: Art Therapy
Portrait of Kimberley E. Jung
"The Adlerian philosophical value that resonates with me the most is courage because that is character. I finally felt authentic inclusion through Adler and with that, I developed more courage and grew with humility to reimagine and recreate."
— Kimberley E. Jung Ph.D. ‘24,
Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Leadership, Online

Jordyn Klingbeil did not grow up in an environment where there were open conversations about mental health and opportunities to hear different points of view in a non-judgmental setting. That all changed when Jordyn was working toward a master’s degree in Couple and Family Therapy at Adler University in Chicago.

Today, as she helps launch a new program at Trinity Services, Inc. — a nonprofit that provides person-centered support to individuals with disabilities and mental illness — Jordyn feels fortunate to find herself in another supportive environment where she can create safe, non-judgmental spaces for her own clients.

In both online and classroom-based learning, I believe that communication and engagement are key to having a successful and effective learning experience. Developing relationships and understanding what the lessons mean to my students are a top priority for me, as I try to find ways to help them connect with the material in the course and in their overall learning in the program.

Graduate ready to make an impact

At Adler, learning happens where change is needed most. Internships and real-world practicums turn knowledge into action — whether in organizations, agencies, or community settings. Every student completes a 200-hour Social Justice Practicum, partnering with community organizations to address systemic barriers to health and well-being. For those pursuing licensure, additional clinical practica offer deeper, specialized training.

Along the way, faculty mentors who are experienced and deeply invested guide each learner through personal and professional growth. They foster meaningful connections and challenge assumptions, offering thoughtful insight, field-specific expertise, and the guidance needed to align academic work with long-term goals, navigate complexity, and lead with purpose.

The Adlerian theory

Adler University is named for Alfred Adler, the founder of Adlerian Psychology and an early voice in recognizing the connection between individual well-being and community life. His emphasis on social interest, purposeful action, and the importance of belonging continues to shape the University’s academic model.

We carry his legacy forward through:

  • A holistic approach to health and the conditions that shape people’s lives.
  • Active engagement with communities, organizations, and systems.
  • Deep preparation for meaningful, lasting contributions to the world.

This work calls for more than knowledge — it demands commitment, courage, and connection. We do not do for ourselves but for all.
